New Blogger e-Business Card Blog

Check out the new “BaltoTechJobs” Blogger site I set up:

BaltoTechJobs.blogspot.com

I think I’m going to add “HTML Programmer” to my resume!

Even though I used a Template from Bloggermint.com it took several attempts with the .xml file to get Blogger to accept the code in the first place, and even then I kept getting error messages from Blogger about the HTML code. After trying several different edits and a new URL for the photo on the eBusiness Card, it worked! Yay!

I am thinking Blogger doesn’t want to make it too easy for Programmers to mess with their code, so they have a few hurdles you have to jump through before you can get the changes to take effect on your Blog.

I originally saw the eBusiness card format on Lights Out Telecom’s website. I am connected with Deanna Durbin on LinkedIn and she gave me the heads up about BloggerMint. (Thanks, Deanna! and good luck with building and promoting your Network for Lights Out Telecom.)

The next change I hope to make to the eBusiness card is to replace the MySpace logo with a LinkedIn logo and to make the hyperlink active.

Social Media Recruiting Strategy

Eximer Technology Solutions will be implementing a Social Media Recruiting Strategy and integrating several of the tools already in place under a new Company Profile / Brand.

Harvey Clay has been using Social Media for several years under a personal Profile and as “BaltoTechJobs” and “TEKrecruiter”. Twitter has recently been setup for @EximerStaffing and we will be creating a LinkedIn Company Profile and a Facebook Company Page for Eximer.

We are interviewing candidates now for 2 positions within the Company: Recruiter Trainee / Sourcing Specialist and Recruiter Trainee / Social Media Wiz. We may hire 2 Part-time Employees, or 1 Part-time and 1 Full-time. Stay tuned for updates related to our Branding and Social Media Strategy and for announcements about the new hires.

**If you have a referral for the 2 new positions we are interviewing for, please send them to our Job Posting.

TEKrecruiter / Social Recruiter / BaltoTechJobs

This Blog has some history to it, and rather than let it fizzle or fade due to lack of attention, my goal is to bring it back to life and offer it to a serious minded Baltimore-based Recruiter who would like to dedicate the time and effort to post local Baltimore Jobs and provide advice and assistance to Jobseekers.

The Blog started as TEKrecruiter, then became Social Recruiter (for obvious reasons to those in the know).

It can easily be renamed TEKrecruiter for the discerning buyer. Or – “Social Recruiter” does have great marketing power as a name, and with the future of all things Social, it could become a Blog specialized for those Jobseekers and Employers.

I own the Domain names: www.TEKrecruiter.com and www.BaltoTechJobs.com and have built up a great Following on Twitter with @BaltoTechJobs. I have also recently added a new Twitter Profile @TEK_Recruiter. (Someone is using @TEKrecruiter, although not very much – it may be available in the future)

http://www.SocialRecruiter.com is not currently available as a Domain Name.

I will be Tweeting about this Blog and the Domain Names and the possibility for a combined sale to the right person. (Training is also available)

If you have interest in establishing a Technical Recruiting presence in Baltimore, or if you would like to add another element of “style” to your current Recruiting efforts, and gain a good entry into Social Media Recruiting, contact me directly and state your interest:

Trying to bring this TEKrecruiter Blog back to life

This was one of my first “Profiles” online using Social Media. At the time I was an I.T. Recruiter for a TEK company and before the Employer got too particular about what Recruiters could or could not do online, I grabbed the URL and started a Blog. I was also known on LinkedIn as http://www.LinkedIn.com/in/TEKrecruiter, but have since changed that back to /harveyclay

I actually did pretty well getting the name “TEKrecruiter” on the first page of Google searches, and was posting Job openings on the blog and Tweeting about the postings.

I no longer work for that same TEK Recruiting firm, but there is such a demand for good information for Jobseekers, I hope to bring TEKrecruiter back to life, and then turn it over to someone who will work it and do it justice.

The Domain name (www.TEKrecruiter.com), the Blog, and the Twitter Profile are available for the right person who wants to get started Blogging and utilizing Social Media in a Recruiting effort.

RIF’s, Layoffs

I received an email over the weekend from a Recruiter on the West Coast who heard in advance that CitiGroup would be laying off 23,000 workers. Ouch! When the news of the layoff arrived yesterday, the number had swollen to 53,000! Now, according to the BusinessWeek article below, the numbers are 23,000 PLUS 52,000!

Aiming for 300,000 Head Count

Any way you slice it, the number of jobs Citigroup is shedding is huge. Chief Executive Vikram Pandit has already cut 23,000 positions, bringing the number of employees to 352,000 as of Sept. 30. With the Nov. 17 announcement, the bank says it is aiming for a head count of 300,000 during the first half of 2009—an additional 14% reduction. Citigroup’s executives are racing to match expenses to its declining business: Over the past nine months, the company has lost $10 billion.  http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/nov2008/db20081117_319455.htm

We are also hearing of deeper cuts at DHL as they effectively close their US ground delivery service. This combined with the continued negotiation for a bailout of the Big 3 Automakers, and several other newsworthy layoffs, the local job market is in a sluggish state.

From the Recruiters chair, the job requirements are fewer, and the feedback from hiring managers is hit or miss. The typical responses we get are: ‘we are busy and still reviewing resumes’; ‘the manager is off for a few days and will get back to you’; etc., ad nauseum. Overall, many Employers are stalling in their hiring decisions, while others have just stopped releasing new requirements.

In the past, employers traditionally ramp up hiring post-major election, but 2008, with all of the economic woes, has not seen the same return to normalcy. Hopefully this will be a very temporary lull in hiring, and as the Holidays approach and managers finalize staffing numbers for ’09, the job orders will come flooding in!
